Introduction
The FreeRADIUS Server Project is a high performance and highlyconfigurable multi-protocol policy server, supporting RADIUS, DHCPv4and VMPS. It is available under the terms of the GNU GPLv2.Using RADIUS allows authentication and authorization for a networkto be centralized, and minimizes the number of changes that have tobe done when adding or deleting new users to a network.
TekRADIUS is a free RADIUS server suite designed for Windows-based computers. TekRADIUS complies with RFC 2865 and RFC 2866, allowing users to log session details into a log file and limit the number of simultaneous sessions. This Microsoft SQL server edition is administered with an interface from which users can easily control group of users. The setup includes a Cisco 1801 router, configured with a Road Warrior VPN, and a server with Windows Server 2012 R2 where we installed and activated the domain controller and Radius server role. To facilitate the management of the users with the permission to access through VPN, we are going to create a specific group called VpnAuthorizedUsers.

The most common problem is that people change large amounts of theconfiguration without understanding what they're doing, and withouttesting their changes. The preferred method of operation is thefollowing:
- Start off with the default configuration files.
- Save a copy of the default configuration: It WORKS. Don't change it!
- Verify that the server starts - in debugging mode (
radiusd -X). - Send it test packets using 'radclient', or a NAS or AP.
- Verify that the server does what you expect
- If it does not work, change the configuration, and go to step (3)
- If you're stuck, revert to using the 'last working' configuration.
- If it works, proceed to step (6).
- Save a copy of the working configuration, along with a note of whatyou changed, and why.
- Make a SMALL change to the configuration.
- Repeat from step (3).
This method will ensure that you have a working configuration thatis customized to your site as quickly as possible. While it may seemfrustrating to proceed via a series of small steps, the alternativewill always take more time. The 'fast and loose' way will be MOREfrustrating than quickly making forward progress!
Debugging the Server
Run the server in debugging mode, (radiusd -X) and READ the output.We cannot emphasize this point strongly enough. The vast majority ofproblems can be solved by carefully reading the debugging output,which includes WARNINGs about common issues, and suggestions for howthey may be fixed.

Many questions are answered on the Wiki:
Read the configuration files. Many parts of the server aredocumented only with extensive comments in the configuration files.
Search the mailing lists. For example, using Google, searching'site:lists.freeradius.org ' will return results fromthe FreeRADIUS mailing lists.
Instructions for what to post on the mailing list are on thewiki. Please note that we DOrecommend posting the output of radiusd -X. We do NOT recommendposting the configuration files.

If you suspect a defect in the server, would like to request a feature,or submit a code patch, please use the GitHub issue tracker for thefreeradius-serverrepository.However, it is nearly always best to raise the issue on themailing lists first to determine whether it really is a defect ormissing feature.

Under no circumstances should the issue tracker be used for supportrequests, those questions belong on the user's mailing list. If youpost questions related to the server in the issue tracker, the issuewill be closed and locked. If you persist in positing questions tothe issue tracker you will be banned from all FreeRADIUS projectrepositories on GitHub.
Please do NOT complain that the developers aren't answering yourquestions quickly enough, or aren't fixing the problems quicklyenough. Please do NOT complain if you're told to go readdocumentation. We recognize that the documentation isn't perfect, butit does exist, and reading it can solve most common questions.
